Executive Director’s Report
Board of Directors Elections

In this month's report, SEBA Executive Director Lolita Harper discusses the current elections taking place for the positions of Vice President, Treasurer, and Valley Station Directors.

A station director is the voice of his or her station and serves as a liaison between SEBA and its members.

Communications regarding members' concerns would be voiced through the director and conversely, the Board Director is responsible to report back to the membership of his or her station/division regarding SEBA business, events, elections, negotiation updates, political activity and news, as needed.

YOU WILL NOT BE EXPECTED TO REPRESENT OTHER MEMBERS IN LABOR DISPUTES OR DISCIPLINARY ACTIONS. Your responsibility will be to direct them to SEBA as soon as possible for representation.

SEBA Wins Two More Emmys!

Congratulations to SEBA Media Production Manager Chris Lee, who won two Emmys for excellence in Public Affairs and Crime programming.

The awards were presented to Lee at the 48th annual Pacific Southwest Emmy Awards June 18.

"This is a tremendous honor to represent our organization in a way that shines a positive light on our members and law enforcement as a whole," said Lee.

In The Community: Magic With Macy’s

SEBA hosted a special charity event that partnered young, college-bound women from the foster system with successful, college-educated SEBA members for a fun day of mentorship and shopping.

In the Magic with Macy’s event, which took place last month at Macy’s in Victoria Gardens, 15 students were given $500 by SEBA to shop for need-based items to help them prepare for college. They were paired with mentors from the Sheriff's Department, Probation Department, District Attorney's Office and the County Superintendent of Schools and spent the morning not only shopping but sharing experiences, listening and inspiring.

Deputy Alicia Hoffman (pictured above with Anna) was moved by Anna’s story and proud of Anna for overcoming so many hardships in her young life.

"I had so much fun bonding and shopping with Anna," said Hoffman who is a SEBA member assigned to the Sheriff’s Administrative Support Unit (ASU). "She is a strong, positive young woman. We talked about life. We laughed and joked. Anna has appreciated the support along her journey and has enjoyed the connections she has made.”

Hoffman said Anna spent her money very wisely. They were very strategic with sale items and discounts to get the most clothes and household items to prepare for the next chapter in her life.

"I enjoyed being a part of this program; mentoring Anna and building this connection," Hoffman said.

The mentors not only helped these young women shop, but they also provided them with advice, support and, hopefully, a future resource for guidance.

SEBA Executive Director Lolita Harper spoke briefly at the event and shopped with a student, alongside SEBA volunteers.

“I personally saw how dedicated each of the mentors were,” Harper said. “The mentors gave of themselves and shared laughter, stories and experiences with these young women, which is arguably more valuable than the tangible items they received.”

Deputy District Attorney Victoria Wyatt, who was partnered with Princess, also enjoyed the experience.

After shopping, we went to lunch together," Wyatt said. "We both got a lot out of the experience. And I left the day feeling amazing. Getting to inspire, help, and get to know a young woman who has had a rough life was very moving for me."

SEBA appreciates the partnership with the Sheriff’s Department, the District Attorney’s Office, the Probation Department and the San Bernardino Superintendent of Schools and fully recognizes this day would not have been possible without the personal involvement of volunteers from each agency. The volunteers helped elevate this from a simple charity event to a lifelong memory for all participants.

SEBA Executive Director Lolita Harper welcomed students and volunteers at Macy’s in Victoria Gardens to kick off the first Magic With Macy's event.
