Another Attack on Deputy at West Valley Detention Center

Another SEBA member was injured this week at West Valley Detention Center by inmates who lured a female deputy into a cell only to ambush her.

Two female inmates staged a fight during meal service with one inmate pretending to choke the other. Our member rushed to the aid of the inmate who she believed was in immediate danger. When she entered the cell to break up the fight, the inmates turned on the deputy and assaulted her. Our member defended herself until help could arrive.

If these shameless attacks on our public servants anger you, please join the movement at keepcalsafe.org to help return public safety as a top priority in the state of California.

The two inmates responsible for Monday’s attack are different from the suspects who executed a similar ambush on a deputy earlier this month. They have both been charged with assault on a peace officer and conspiracy – both of which are considered non-violent in the state of California.

This is a frightening trend, occurring not only in our jails, but across the state. Inmates housed in County jails are a far more dangerous caliber since California lawmakers mandated prisoner “realignment.” Violent inmates are now emboldened by the “soft-on-crime” attitude of the California legislature.

These attacks on deputies are considered “non-violent” by California laws and carry no additional enhancements or penalties since voters were fooled into passing Proposition 57. These actions cannot be tolerated.
