Executive Director Lolita Harper and Media Relations Manager Chris Lee earned an Emmy® Award from the National Academy of Television Arts and Science. The award was presented at the 47th annual Pacific Southwest Emmy® Awards on Friday, June 4.

SEBA’s “I Am You” campaign won in the Public Service Announcement (PSA) category. The PSA, which launched in July 2020, was intended to give a voice to SEBA’s African American members. SEBA congratulates the members who were part of this video and shared their voice in a time when it was needed. We also would like to thank the Sheriff’s Department for its support and all the SEBA staff who made this happen.

“Prior to launching the campaign, we watched our deputies of color be demonized, degraded and even assaulted on the front lines of protests simply for the color of their skin,” said Harper, who produced the campaign on behalf of the Sheriff’s Employees’ Benefit Association. “As a police union, we felt a duty to amplify our members’ voices and bring their sentiments to the forefront of the conversation.”

The 60-second PSA, which was directed and edited by Lee, can be viewed and shared on YouTube or below:

“I just want to thank every one of our members who agreed to be a part of this campaign,” said Lee. “I hear you, I see you, and I thank you for your selfless service to our community.”
