John Futch Community Law Enforcement Leader Scholarship

WHO WAS JOHN M. FUTCH: John M. Futch, Jr. was dedicated to helping others and served his community in various aspects including working for the FBI; as a Metro DC Police Officer; an administrator at Cal State University San Bernardino; an elected trustee of the San Bernardino Community College District; and as the President of the NAACP, San Bernardino Branch. His name in the community was synonymous with action, advancement and assurance. He passed away in August of 2019, leaving a legacy of civic engagement, awareness and advocacy.

 

QUALIFICATIONS: Applicant must be enrolled in the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Training Academy and must have started the academy class as a Pre-Service Trainee. Applicant must successfully complete and graduate the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Academy. Scholarship recipients will be selected by the SEBA Scholarship committee, which will consider a combination of the applicant’s class standing (provided by sheriff’s academy staff) and information from the following application, including the personal statement. No more than one recipient will be chosen from each graduating class. If no applicants meet the requirements, no award will be given. Winners will be announced at Academy Graduation.
