Shop With A Cop: Faith Flanagan
Faith Flanagan knows the importance of education. The 7-year-old was given a $200-shopping spree and the top item on her list was a tablet to do her homework.
“And when I am done with my homework, I can play with this glitter slime,” Faith said, pointing to the slime kit in her shopping cart.
Faith got to shop with San Bernardino County District Attorney Victim Advocate Miriam Torres, who is also the K9 handler for Lupe. Lupe, a black English Labrador, made a wonderful shopping partner. She immediately gave Faith and Torres something to bond over, as Faith has two dogs at home.
Faith loved shopping with Lupe, as she proudly took her leash as they walked from the clothing section to electronics to toys and – ultimately – to the register.
“I got to shop with a cop AND shop with a puppy,” Faith said excitedly.
Lupe is a Court Facility K9 assigned to help the victims of Crimes Against Children get through the courtroom process. Lupe was selected for this critical position based on her training, temperament and her ability to interact with children.
“Lupe’s entire job is to provide comfort,” Torres said. “We’ve seen kids at their worst and at their best. Today is a 'best' day.”
